In Doringkloof mall there has been 3-4 restaurants in the same spot. Since Gameal's Cedar Cafe, which was an absolute winner, every other restaurant after it just seemed to last a very short time.
Once again a new one opened called Cafe de Cafe.
Since I had a visitor this morning, decided to check out this new place for breakfast.
I really do love the decor, clean lines, elegant. The menu is quite diverse but with a French feel, croissants instead of toast for breakfast, baguettes, pastas and a good dessert section.
The breakfasts are quite large and tasted very good. The coffee wasn't very strong but it tasted great - especially as my visitor was delayed nearly for an hour, I really craved coffee :)
I had the revolution baguette which was spicy prawns and avo, this tasted good, but it wasn't spicy at all. I also, just to be a bit adventurous, tried the
phyllo pastry duo, ham, cheese and chives + cheese and chutney.
Dished up lovely but quite a bit oily. As I do LOVE melted cheese I ate
the bottom parts but could not manage all the fried pastry.
As
not one restaurant lasted much longer than a few months or a year in
this spot, we will see how this one fares. I do have hope for it, they
are trying, though the staff seem a bit overwhelmed when more than one
table of patrons appear. If they can get it right to enjoy it a bit
more, smile and have fun I can see this place doing well.
I also saw a board advertising a Banting menu, which I know many people are in to lately.
So try it out, lets see how they grow.....
